WHAT IS KEY TO LEARNING?
Developing abilities, unlocking possibilities ...
| Being ready for school now doesn't necessarily mean being able to read, write and count, but being ready to learn how to read, write and count. - Leonid Venger |
Key to Learning is a unique educational developmental cognitive curriculum for
the Early Years, specially designed to provide optimal learning experiences.
Where does Key to Learning come from?
Key to Learning is based on the ideas which were developed by psychologists
and educationalists from the Vygotskian school: Zaporozhets, Venger, Diachenko
and Veraksa. Ongoing research projects confirm that the Key to Learning
curriculum has a profound and positive impact on young children's achievements.
What changes can we expect to see in the children?
This approach to developing learning abilities produces significant changes in the children. It facilitates self development, helping children become independent
learners. They begin to plan and organise their own activities, openly express
their point of view, provide creative solutions to various problems, interact freely
with other people and - most importantly - believe in themselves and their abilities.
Where does Key to Learning fit within a traditional curriculum?
Key to Learning can be used in any early years setting to complement, extend,
enrich and systematise existing good practice. It has now been introduced
successfully in a wide variety of different pre-school and school settings, both in
England and abroad. In each case teachers have recorded improvements in
children's cognitive, communicative, and self-regulative abilities as well as in their
ability to focus and to concentrate.
Why is it popular with Early Years practitioners?
Key to Learning attracts attention because of its impact on young learners.
Graduates of the programmes leave ready for the educational challenges they
will face in the years to come. They are self confident, self motivated learners,
with the mindset and mental tools they need for later learning already securely in
place. In essence, Key to Learning creates the right conditions for minds to
open, for learning to become a pleasure and for creativity to flourish.
Twelve Programmes, One Practice
