VYGOTSKY CONFERENCE FEEDBACK

WOW! Lots of new things I wish to do.
Exciting
Things I knew, I had forgotten.
Will be starting tomorrow.
It will help SEN, EBD
Karen Speight (Trevithick School)
A stimulating day. So much to think about but so much fun to be had with our children. I do need to develop a greater understanding of theory outlined today.)

Dear Galina,
Thank you for giving such a wealth of information today. There are so many brilliant ideas that I know I will be introducing many into my reception setting. Being in a Success Zone surely means being able to be more radical in our approach and trying a different curriculum.
A really interesting and thought provoking day. Lots of brilliant material to move us forward. Many thanks.

Dear Galina,
I have been in education for a relatively long time (27 years). I have never lost sight of the fact that the classroom should be an innovative and exciting place, it should be reassuring, secure yet challenging. The catalyst for this is the inspirational teacher, a person who is creative yet 'rigorous' in their own way. All good teaching is based on good relationships within a "firm, fair and friendly" environment. Your approach reaffirms my beliefs. Many thanks. Dave Simons.

Lots of good ideas, some of which we use already, if not in exactly the same
format.
I strongly agree that we must have good foundations and some of our children
have such an  impoverished  start.  Our job  must be to use our professional
judgement to do the best for "One and All children".
Thank you...you have put our thoughts into words and given justification to what we are trying to do.
This is a fantastic coherent system, built on sound research which will enable us to build on our existing practice. I know that it will enable our children to become more successful, creative and imaginative learners.
Thank you, you have definitely given me something to think about, I shall probably think of all my children now as butterflies and caterpillars. We will try to fit many of your topics in somewhere when we can, it would be lovely to do it all.
You identified theory into practice and helped me make many connections of my own knowledge and experiences. Thank you. Janet

To Galina,
Thank you, you were a real inspiration to listen to. I have recently began my three year journey doing a degree in child and youth studies and some of what you have been saying is relevant to my studies. After being a caterpillar (nursery nurse for 17 years) I am ready to hatch into a butterfly (an early years teacher)!! Thank you. After just qualifying from college, today linked together with the practice and consolidated my understanding. It has showed me a good model to, hopefully, follow and adapt in my setting. Thanks.

Came

Listened
Loved it!!
Hope we have the courage. Viva butterflies!
Thank you. It has given me a lot of good and fresh ideas! I have been a reception class teacher for 4 days so this will help me!
I feel inspired by what you have spoken about! I have enjoyed listening to you and am keen to go away and try some of these ideas. It has made me realise that a lot of what I am doing is good and creative- that's for that! Oh to be in Russia to experience this wonderful approach!
FANTASTIC! Very inspiring. Some excellent ideas that I will be able to adapt for the children in my class who have special needs.
When working in mainstream I will take these ways of working with me- as a newly qualified teacher it helped me a lot. Thanks. Becky

Dear Galina,
So much to take in- exciting and pacey. I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation and feel there is so much I could use, and will use, in my classroom. I have a mixed age class and feel many of the activities will work well in my setting. Explanations are clear, so teaching assistants would be confident to use them. My children must enjoy themselves and be enthusiastic. I want them to fly.
Using the Foundations of Literacy in school now I feel this will fit in really well. This is what our children need-1 can't wait to use it.
Thank you!

I like the evaluation form!
As a visual learner, I learnt a lot- thank you
I wish I could have the whole programme
Clear and concise
Friendly
Excellent resources
Good fun
Very informative
Thank you for kinaesthetic activities-1 need that!
Fits very well with formative assessment
I have a new role as learning mentor. I feel that what I have learnt today will be
beneficial to supporting children in removing 'barriers to learning'. I have got a new insight into how children learn and think.
Thank you for giving me the courage to act on what makes a lot of sense. (Roskear School)

First met Vygotsky 30 years ago at teacher training college. He has been in subconscious ever since. Today he has become part of consciousness and my conscience- in our hearts we know what is right!! Janet Patterson.

Extremely inspirational, will take away with me many ideas, but will need to change/adapt some of the activities to match my pupils' abilities (they all have varying learning difficulties) and therefore their ZPDs are often well below that of a 2? year old child. Thank you for such enjoyable and an interesting day. Polly.

Galina,
A very inspiring thought provoking day which has left my mind buzzing! Although I realise that taking the whole programme into a KS1 classroom would be difficult to do-1 can see how I can fit elements of it into the curriculum- it requires looking at creatively! Thank you for such a stimulating day!
Fantastic ideas- would like to follow this- depends on the Head Teacher. May be difficult to organise group work with 26 nursery children and 2 adults and a building that does not lend itself to separate areas.
Very interesting to see practical applications of Vygotsky- only read a bit about the theory before. So many ideas packed into 1 day. Really interesting to see how 'props'/objects can be used to help children learn, and to learn in a much more practical, relevant and fun way. Confirmed many of my feelings about what education should be like. Very glad that I came along today, thank you!

Galina,
Thank you, you gave us so much that my head hurts but my heart tells me you are right. Thanks again. Duncan.

A great day- very keen to put in place this module. Lots of it is best practice- lots already been taught. Love the systematic approach- what a difference it makes and can't wait until I can make that difference. Nicki Finn (Portreath School)

My head hurts- so many ideas, so much to think about. What wonderful ideas which can be used everyday. Confirmed so many of many of the things that I feel about early years- learning to think, learning to learn, enjoying learning- fun.
I have gained some fantastic practical ideas that I can use in class. I know the children will really benefit. Claire Mitchell (Trannack School)

Great evaluation form
Informative and relative
Many examples that we can relate to and develop
Inspiring and exciting
Can't wait to act on my own learning
